How MTS is Sustainable in 2018

1. Compostable water cups.

No more one-time-use plastic water bottles during or after the race.

2. Compost, recycling and waste bins at the race

Place your trash in the proper bin at the race and we’ll take care of the rest. Each bin will have pictures of the goods that you should put in them. For example, you’ll be able to compost all of the water cups and post-race banana peels.

3. Reusable bags for packet pick-up with an option to not take a bag.

We will be using reusable bags for packet pick-up to reduce the amount of waste produced from our event. There will also be an option to bring your own bag and leave the reusable bag at packet pick-up.

4. 99% online marketing

This year we have made a huge effort to do paperless marketing. We have achieved this by marketing our event through social media, email campaigns and other online platforms.

5. One World Running shoe donation box.

Have any old running shoes? (You’re all triathletes so I know the answer is yes…) Bring them to the race and we will ship and donate them to One World Running. One World Running is an international program promoting an awareness of health, fitness and nutrition by providing running shoes to those in need in the United States and around the world.

6. Sustainability focused booth at MTS.

Check out the booth at the post-race expo to see how members of the Cal Poly Triathlon team are helping to make SLO more sustainable.

7. Carpool

Help do your part and carpool with a buddy. Any amount of driving that we can limit will help the environment!
