the collegiate competition

This year, Cal Poly has the honor of hosting the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Confrence Championships (WCCTC Championships) for the fifth time running. In addition to this, the March Triathlon Series will host the USAT Southwest Region Collegiate Championships for the second year in a row.

scoring points for WCCTC

individual scoring

Individual points toward the WCCTC omnium are awarded based on the following formula:

Points = 100 + [ (1 - p) x 2 ]

Where “p” represents place. Therefore first place would receive 100 points, and second place 98 points, all the way down to 51st place which receives 0 points.

team scoring

The WCCTC scores a maximum of five male and female participants toward their schools team total. Other athletes from the school can displace competitors, but their individual scores will not be added to the team total. Team points are then added up, and the highest score wins. Team points are then awarded as follows:

Place Points
1st 100
2nd 90
3rd 80
4th 70
5th 60
6th 50
7th 40
8th 30
9th 20
10th 10

march mustache disclaimer

The MTS committee has taken every step it can to make sure that MTS will be a fair race. HOWEVER, there is one area that we simply cannot change that might allow some people an unfair advantage. It is tradition, and that is why we simply cannot change it.

That unfair advantage that some may gain is the mustache. The “Mustache” March Triathlon Series must uphold this tradition, even if it grants advantages to those who can grow them. History has shown us that the mustache is a powerful extension of the male anatomy. Mustaches have granted men tremendous super human powers. People with mustaches become famous because of the super powers that their mustaches grant them such as charisma, virility, and physical prowess.

So while it is an unfair advantage, you’ll have to pardon us for trying to uphold this tradition.
